What to Expect in Your First Drum Lesson at John’s Studio
Walking into your first drum lesson can feel exciting—and maybe a little intimidating. Whether you're brand new to drumming or getting back behind the kit after some time away, here’s exactly what you can expect during your first 30-minute (or 1hr) session at John’s Studio (or with the Worship Arts program)!

🥁 Studio Vibes
The studio is set up in a relaxed, private home environment here at my home. It’s fully equipped with a professional drum kit, practice pads, fully air conditioned, and high-quality sound gear. You’ll feel right at home whether you’re 10 years old or 50!
📝 What We’ll Cover
In your first session, we’ll focus on:
Proper drumstick grip & posture
Understanding the kit layout (snare, toms, hi-hats, kick, etc.)
Basic rhythm exercises to get you playing right away
Your goals & musical taste – so we can customize your lessons going forward
It’s hands-on from the start. I’ll be playing alongside you and guiding each step in real-time. The pace is casual but focused, with room to ask questions and have fun.
🎵 After the Lesson
You’ll walk away with a few simple exercises to practice at home, along with a better understanding of what future lessons will look like. If you’re feeling the groove, we can also chat about moving into a recurring lesson plan or even a semester bundle.
